Kus-day-mah-nah! That's 'hello' in Tirio, a native indian tribe here in the Amazon. I'm a native of the Amazon rainforest, too; but I'm a kinkajou, or 'honeybear', a distant cousin of the raccoon.
My home, the Amazon rainforest, has been called "the Greatest Expression of Life on Earth." What does that mean? Well, it means the Amazon has more varieties of plants and animals than any other place on earth!
For example, a single Amazonian river may have more types of fish than all the rivers of Europe combined, and in just one of our national parks, there are more bird species than the entire United States. A single Amazonian tree may be home to more kinds of insects than you'll find in the British Isles. In fact, the majority of the world's insects live here in the rainforest. We also have the world's largest eagle, snake, anteater, armadillo, spider, freshwater turtle, and freshwater fish. Don't forget the plants: one of every four plants of earth grows here. Getting the picture? That's what I call an interesting neighborhood!
The tricky part is keeping it that way. That's where The Amazon Conservation Team (ACT) comes in. They started in 1996 to help save this magical rainforest, by working with the ancient tribes who live here. For instance, ACT helped them make maps covering more than 40 million acres of their forests, maps they can use to better plan ways to save the rainforest.
How can YOU help? Look inside the box, or check out www.amazonteam.com/kids, and keep on eating Amaxon Flakes Organic Cereal and other EnviroKidz® products - part of the money goes to great environmental organizations like ACT.
Good for the earth. Good for kids, too.
1% of our sales is donated to species & habitat conservation and environmental education. Thanks to all those EnviroKids®, bars, cookies, and bowls of cereal you ate, we've donated significantly towards species conservation. With your help, we can give even more.
Eating organic foods can make a big difference to the environment, too, because organic farmers don't use synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. All these things can harm wildlife and kids.
